The weather was ideal for the first 18 holes but into the last nine it rained and a thunder storm threatened causing a large number of ladies to abandon play. Sue Heffernan who has overcome serious illness was the winner of the Open Championship.

The Romsey bowl was sponsored by the Romsey Pharmacy and we are very grateful for their sponsorship and for sending a representive to present the trophies and join the ladies for lunch. The day was marred by heavy drizzle and poor visibility. The players that had entered arrived but were not enthusiastic about playing. We sent the 11 teams out and 4 of our members stayed out to help keep them moving in the right direction. Ladies found the course heavy and hard going, many of them said they had never been sooooo cold before. The sun did shine for an instant and the weather did clear up for the last six holes after everyone was already wet. We had 8 ladies who found the going too tough and enjoyed the comforts of the heater and hot drinks inside while waiting for lunch.
